Rural Charge at the Royal Highland Show 2025

Some reflections on 2 days exploring the latest innovations in agri-tech

It’s the biggest agricultural show in the UK, attracting over 200,000 people over 4 days. Held at Ingliston Showground on the outskirts of Edinburgh, it’s the annual gathering where farmers from across the country have the opportunity to show their cattle and sheep, meet their suppliers and discuss the general health of the industry. Increasingly, it’s attracts hoards of city dwellers who’ve watched Clarkson’s Farm on Amzon and subscribe to the dizzing number of farmer YouTube channels.

My mission over 2 days was to get a lowdown on the latest innovations that are steering farms towards a more sustainable future. All machinery manufacturers need to make this transition but who exactly is leading the way? What space is there for start-ups to disrupt the dominance of the multinationals?
